    1.3 km long, the new Binh Loi Bridge will open the North – South railway in September, after four years of construction with many delays due to ground problems.

    Binh Loi Iron Bridge crosses the Saigon River, connecting Binh Thanh District and Thu Duc District, started in April 2015, expected to be completed in 16 months.

    This work is part of the project of building a new Binh Loi bridge and dredging 71 km of the Saigon river channel in the form of BOT, with an investment of more than 1,300 billion VND.

    When in operation, the bridge will facilitate ships and barges with a tonnage of up to 5,000 tons to transport goods and containers from seaports and inland waterways in Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc and Binh Duong provinces. Tay Ninh, contributing to reduce the load on the road.

    The new bridge is located 12 meters from the old bridge. The railway rails and sleepers of the main section of the new bridge (right) are being urgently completed by workers.

    The main steel girder of the arched bridge, more than 100 m long, has been installed and completed. Currently, this is the longest railway bridge steel girder in Vietnam.

    The new bridge has a clearance of 7 m high to facilitate the passage of ships, while the old bridge has a clearance of 1.5 m, which is too low, so there have been many cases of ships hitting the bridge, disrupting the Northern railway line. – Male.

    The new Binh Loi iron bridge will not have a road for motorbikes like the old bridge, but only a pedestrian corridor with a width of 1.5 m.

    Workers are urgently pouring crushed stone after the rails and sleepers have been installed on the road side of Binh Thanh district.

    Mr. Hoang Tuan Khoat, Deputy General Director of Project Management Board 7, said that now the new Binh Loi iron bridge project has reached more than 90% volume, the basic items have been completed. Previously, the project was expected to open the bridge on July 30, but it has not been implemented yet due to ground problems.

    “Currently, the construction has been favorable, it is expected that by the end of August, construction will be completed and procedures for the train to be tested, if it meets the requirements, the national railway will pass through the new bridge,” Khoat said. .

    It is expected that after the new bridge comes into operation, the old Binh Loi iron bridge will be dismantled. The old bridge was built in the 1900s and put into operation in 1902. This is the first bridge to cross the Saigon River.
